A year in the Word

It seems like every day we hear of "can't miss" products. Weight loss programs, muscle building equipment, sure investment opportunities and so many things that seems to good to be true.  Studys have shown that the one guaranteed way to ensure your spiritual growth in 2012is to read your Bible...regularly...daily and read it from cover to cover. Our goal at The Vine in 2012 is to Read the Bible completely through during the year.  You can pick a variety of reading plans at the site below to get started today.

No better way to begin the New Year! I am excited about what God will do in my own life and in the lives of our church body @ The Vine during the coming days. My personal weekend devotion was on this very subject. Here's an excerpt..."We have all faced times when we just didn't have the hunger or desire to meet with the Lord. The more you taste of the Word of God, the more you will long for it. The more you partake of Jesus, the Bread of Life, the more you will hunger for Him." One common reason given for lack of spritual desire..."filling ourselves with what the world has to offer, leaving us little appetite for spiritual food." God's timing never ceases to amaze me! Thanks Pastor Rick

I hope other people have enjoyed reading the Bible this way...in chronological order...not sure what the difference is or maybe it was just time for me to finally read it all the way thru.

I would love to hear people's thoughts who are reading the Bible in chronological order. I am realizing how God really was involved in a lot of places. Can you think how many times you heard the story of Joseph growing up but then think how the whole family is affecting our world even today? I am in awe and wonder how anybody can read this history...purely looking at it from a histroical point of view and not believe in God and His Word!!!

Man, I have forgotten how messed up people were in those early days... Men sleeping with men, lieing, stealing, rape, deception, famine & promiscuity. Hmmmm, sound a lot like the evening news in 2012.

It really does sound like the evening news but the amazing part to me is that God said over and over this land would be Isreal's...he also said the Ishmeal's descendents would always be fussing and they are. It's like I am reading this for the first time. Have started into Job...he did ask some pretty good questions in the first part...things I have been asking this past year...however, I go to that very last chapter where God answers him and that pretty well answers it all...

Great reading about Job. I feel like this still happens...Satan approaching God and God saying...have u seen my servant ----------? The question is whose name does he fill in. I have often thought and asked myself could God trust me with the tuff stuff?

I do wonder what I would do if I had the things happen to me that happened to Job. I am getting a better appreciation for Job in that sometimes there is no rhyme or reason why things happen. I am very glad that I can call out to Him and ask to please just get me thru the next hour and somehow it happens and I do feel a sense of peace...I sure hope people are reading intentionally to finish the Bible in a year...If I make it, this will be my first time.

I feel that had I been Job I would have kicked those "friends" to the curb. It is amazing to me how they started by questioning and ended up accusing. A true friend has the right to ask the hard question but their accusations we over the top. This week we get to the end of the story and a lot of the pieces begin to fit together. Enjoy this weeks readings.

Dung! Who would have thought such a short and disgusting word would have meant so much to me recently. As we read through Leviticus and hear all about the laws, offerings, festivals the one thing that struck me was that with every offering the entire animal was accounted for, even the dung. What struck my heart was that when Jesus went to the cross, all of my "dung" was accounted for. Past, present and even future, accounted for.
